Нагымбек

In the reading room of the Art Department, a book exhibition «Oi terber tuyndylar» was organized, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the painter, People's Artist of Kazakhstan, Nagymbek Zhemaladdinovich Nurmukhamedov.  

Nurmukhamedov was born in 1924 in the area of Saytandy in the modern Pavlodar region. In 1931, his father died, so from the age of seven, the boy was raised in an orphanage.

In 1940, Nurmukhamedov became a student at the Alma-Ata Art College, graduated in 1942, and entered the Moscow Aviation Institute, but in the same year, after his brother's death in the war, he volunteered for the front, taking part in the battles for the Caucasus. After the war, he graduated first from the Naval Artillery School, then from the Secondary Art School at the All-Russian Academy of Arts.In 1947-1953 he studied at the I. E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad under the supervision of Professor R. R. Frentz, specializing in battle painting. In 1955, he became a postgraduate student at the Creative Workshop of A.M. Gerasimov at the Academy of Arts, from which he graduated in 1961. In 1959, he moved to Alma-Ata.

Nurmukhamedov worked in various genres of easel painting.He is the author of a number of portraits, landscapes, paintings on historical subjects. Among his most famous paintings are portraits of admirals of the USSR Fleet: I.S.Isakov (1964-1965); Hero of the Soviet Union M. Gabdullin (1969); the plot painting «Keep powder dry» (1965); as well as paintings «Foothills of Alatau» (1966), «Papa is Coming» (1960), «Turgai steppes. 1919» (1971-1972), «I.Zhakhaev's Brigade» (1972), etc.

Nurmukhammedov visited many foreign countries, among them: France, England, Brazil, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico, India, leaving sketches about each of his travels. The artist's works have been exhibited in Canada, Belgium, Yugoslavia and other countries. Nurmukhamedov is also the author of a number of scientific works on art history and several art albums.

He was awarded the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR named after Ch. Valikhanov (1978), two orders of the «Badge of Honor» (1959, 1971), the Order of the Patriotic War II degree (1985).

The purpose of the exhibition is to introduce readers to the work of the Kazakh artist, painter, portraitist, researcher of fine arts of Kazakhstan.
