There in the reading-hall after Oraz Zhandosov is organized the book exhibition “Zhyr alyby Zhambyl”, dedicated to the 175-th birthday of the great akyn, master of Kazakh oral-poetical art Zhambyl Zhabayev.

Zhambyl Zhabayev was born on February 28, 1846 at the foot of the mountain Zhambul (now the Zhambyl district of the Almatinskaya region). He grew as an independent and mischievous boy, he learned from his mother Uldan how to play the kobyz and the dombra. Very early he felt himself drawn towards the poetical creative activity. From his childhood he performed excerpts from the eposes “Koblandy”, “Alpamys”, the Kirghiz epos “Manas”, the works “The narration about Rustem”, “Kerogly”.

Participating in the aityses, Zhambyl became widely known already while being young when he was 16-17 years old. In his improvisations the young akyn touched upon the topical issues in the life of the Kazakh society, he told about the needs of the people, drew the pictures of lawlessness and called to fight for freedom. There in the songs of Zhambyl, in the strumming of his dombra is sounded the truthful voice of the Kazakh people. “I am the watchful falcon, I am the melody of my country”, “I am your Zhambyl” addresses the akyn to his people. He sings about the people, for the people, surrounded by the people. For many years the people admired Zhambyl, he was translated into many languages of the world and in great quantities he was published in the USSR as well as abroad.

Zh.Zhabayev made a great contribution into the development of the poetical art of the Kazakh people, he dedicated his life to the advancement of the eternal all-human values, the admiration of good, justice, the upbringing of patriotism. Many texts of his song competitions are lost. By his own recollections and by the recollections of his pupils, a number of the texts from the aityses with the participation of Zhambyl later were recovered. There were recorded two poems: “Patsha amiri taryldy” and “Zildy buiryk”.

In 1919 the akyn participated in the meeting of folk poets of Zhetysu (the Semirechye). In 1934 he participated in the 1-st republican meeting of masters of arts. In 1936 Zhambyl participated in the Decade of Kazakh literature and art in Moscow city.

In 1938 Zh.Zhabayev is the deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, member of the Writers’ Union of the USSR. In the spring the akyn was awarded the State prize of the USSR. He was awarded with the orders of Lenin, the Labour Red Banner, “The Badge of Honour”.

The poetical heritage of Zh.Zhabayev entered the golden fond of the spiritual treasury of the Kazakh people. “Zhambul is the brightest and most gifted singer of our epoch,” – wrote about him the well-known Kazakh writer Mukhtar Auezov. “The honour, the voice, the heart and the truth of his people”, - he was called by the outstanding representative of Russian literature, poet Nikolai Tikhonov.

There in the poetry in the period of the Great Patriotic war of Zh.Zhabayev the main place was occupied by the theme of protection of the Motherland and friendship of the peoples.

All the four years he indefatigably created the works about the warriors, the guardsmen, the cities of Moscow and Leningrad. All around the whole world there flew his verse named “The Leningrad dwellers, my children!”. Many of these creations were the real masterpieces of patriotic poetry.

On June 22, 1945 Zhambyl Zhabayev died when he was 99 years old. In many cities of azakhstan and the countries of the CIS in honour of the akyn are named the streets, the schools, there are established the busts and monuments.     

There at the book exhibition “Zhyr alyby Zhambyl” out of the fond of National library of the RK are presented the materials about the life and creative activity of the wise old man with the dombra Zhambyl Zhabayev, his works filled with love towards Motherland, and also the articles and recollections of the poets and writers of Kazakhstan about him on the pages of the periodical press.
