There in the reading hall of world literature is organized the book exhibition “UNESCO – 75 years at the service of education, science and culture”, dedicated to the jubilee of the international organization.

UNESCO was always founded upon the basis that the peaceful development of mankind must rely first of all upon the intellectual and spiritual, moral solidarity of mankind. And during the years of its existence UNESCO was firmly established as the humanitarian foundation of the system of international relations, the unique multi-sided forum by the issues of strengthening peace and security through the widening of cooperation of the peoples in the sphere of education, science and culture, in the interests of provision of universal respect, justice, law, the main liberties and rights of man. The organization was created on November 16, 1945, its head-quarters is situated in Paris (France). At the present time there in the organization are 193 countries-members and 2 countries-observers.

There in the basis of all the strategies, programmes and activities of UNESCO lie the concrete tasks of the international community – “The steady development goals” (SDG), determined in the Agenda in the sphere of steady development for the period to 2030 which was approved by the General Assembly of the UNO in 2015.

The entering of the Republic of Kazakhstan into UNESCO in May, 1992 gave the qualitatively new impulse for the development of humanitarian cooperation on all levels, it was conducive to the widening of various cultural exchanges.

On July 16, 1999 the capital of Kazakhstan Astana city (today Nur-Sultan city) by the decision of UNESCO received the title “The City of the World”. From 2000 the main city of Kazakhstan is a member of the International assembly of capitals and large cities.

In 1975 there entered into force the Convention of UNESCO on the protection of world cultural and natural heritage. Kazakhstan has five objects of cultural and natural heritage in the list of the World heritage of UNESCO: the mausoleum of Khodzha Akhmed Yassaui, the petroglyphs of the archeological landscape Tamgaly, Saryarka – the Steppes and the lakes of Northern Kazakhstan, Western Tiang-Shang and the objects of the Great Silk way in the Chanan – Tyang-Shang corridor.

The thematic exhibition consists of the divisions: the history of creation of UNESCO; the main trends of activity of UNESCO; Kazakhstan and UNESCO.

There upon the book exhibition out of the fond of National library of the RK are presented the documents which disclose the work of the international organization, the books of different years in the Russian, English and other languages of the world.
