National library of the Republic of Kazakhstan prepared the virtual exhibition and the exhibition of books in the Hall of world literature named “Tbilisi – the World capital of books of the year 2021”, the status of which was determined by the decision of the UNESCO.

The NESCO announced the city of Tbilisi (Georgia) the World capital of books of the year 2021. And on April 23, 2021 the title of the capital was transferred to Tbilisi on the day of the celebration of the World day of books and copyright. The recommendations were made by the Consultative committee, which consists from the representatives of the UNESCO, the International association of publishers and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. The session of the committee took place in Switzerland in June, 2019.

The main purpose is to acquaint the whole world with the literary treasury of Georgia, modern literature, the processes in the publishing sphere and other related fields.

The programme of related activities is directed at the use of modern technologies as the mighty instruments for the popularization of reading among the youth and includes into itself several wide-scale projects. There is provided the creation of libraries and the children’s book festival, the development6 of modern digital project for turning the books into attractive games and the recovery of the first publishing house in Georgia.  

The literature from the fond of National library of the RK is represented by the works of the Georgian writers, such as: Sh. Rustaveli (approximately 1172- approximately 1216), Orbeliani (1658-1725), I.G. Chavchavadze (1837-1907), A.R. Tsereteli (1840-1915), M.S. Dzhavakhishvili (1880-1937), L. Kiacheli (1884-1963), G.V. Tabidze (1892-1959), K.L. Gamsakhurdia (1891-1975), N.V. Dumbadze (1928-1984), G.N. Danelia (1930-2019) and other modern authors.
