There in the reading hall of the Arts department is organized the book exhibition “Oresi biyik, onegeli tulga – Ozbekali Zhanibekov”, dedicated to the 90-th anniversary of the state figure, ethnographer, candidate of science (history) Uzbekali Zhanibekov. Uzbekali Zhanibekov (28.08.1931 - 22.02.1998)- was born in the village of Sarykamys of the Otyrarskiy district of the Southern-Kazakhstani region. In 1952 he graduated from the Kazakhpedagogical institute after Abai (now the Alma-Atinskiy state university). He began his labour activity as a rural teacher and went up to the post of the secretary of the CC. U.Zhanibekov made a considerable contribution into the revival and development of national culture, native language, traditions and rites of the Kazakh people. In the 1970-s of the 20-th century he initiated the restoration of the mausoleum of Khodzha Akhmed Yassaui. There by the initiative of U.Zhanibekov there in many cities of Kazakhstan were opened the ethnographical museums, created the society “Arkas” setting the purpose of preservation of the monuments of history and culture of Kazakhstan.
U. Zhanibekov organized the ensembles of folk art “Sherter”, “Adyrna”, “Altynai” and others. He actively participated in the revival of the holiday “Nauryz”, the return of the names of M. Dulatov, Zh. Aimautov, M. Zhumabayev, Sh.Kudaiberdiyev. He participated in the elaboration of the state conception of the programme of development of the native language. U.Zhanibekov is the author of the ethnographical researches in the Kazakh traditional material culture: “The culture of Kazakh handicrafts” (1982), “The echo” (1991), “The caravan of time” (1992), “Zholaiyrykta” (1996), “Kazak kiyimy” (2005) and many others. He is awarded with the order of the Labour Red Banner, medals. The purpose of the book exhibition is the popularization of the creative heritage of the outstanding ethnographer and public figure. There at the exhibition are presented the materials about the life and creative activity of U.Zhanibekov.
