In the O. Zhandosov reading room of the Kazakhstan Kitaptary Service, a book exhibition «Tamyry teren kalamger» was organized, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the people's writer of Kazakhstan, public and political figure Abish Kekilbayev.
Abish Kekilbayev was born on December 6, 1939 in the village of Ondy, Mangystau region. In 1962, he graduated from the Kazakh department of the Philological Faculty of the Kazakh State University named after S. M. Kirov with a degree in «teacher of the Kazakh language and literature», began his career as a literary employee of the newspaper «Kazakh Adebieti».
He published his first book in 1962. He has written more than 50 books, including historical novels «Urker» and «Elen-alan», for which he received the Abai State Prize. The most famous works are the novel «Anyzdyn akyry», «Bir shokim bult», «Kui», «Baigetory», «Shynyrau», «Baseke», «Hansha daria hikayasy», «Kus kanaty», «Bir shok zhide», «Shetkeri uy».
From 1963 to 1965 he was the head of the literature and art department of the editorial office of the newspaper «Leninshil Zhas». Then he worked in the repertoire and editorial board of the Ministry of Culture of the Kazakh SSR. In the period from 1968 to 1970 he served in the Central Asian Military District in the ranks of the Soviet Army.
He served as the editor-in-chief of the republican newspaper «Egemen Kazakhstan». Twice (01.1993-03.1994 and 04.1995-12.1995) he held the position of State Adviser of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Deputy Chairman of the National Council for State Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The book exhibition consists of three sections. The first section: «Kemel tulga kelbeti» reflects materials about the life and work of A. Kekilbayev: encyclopedias, bibliographic reference books and literature about him.
The second section «Galamnyn uni – kemenger sozi» introduces readers to the famous works of the writer A. Kekilbayev: «Altyn shuak» (1962), «Bir shokim bult» (1965), «Dauirmen betpe-bet» (1974), «Bir uys topyrak» (1974), «Tyrau tyrau tyrnalar» (1979), «Shynyrau» (1982), «Urker» (1981), «Elen-alan» (1984), etc. His works have been published in Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Russian, Uzbek, German, Spanish, Polish, Turkish, English and other languages.
The third section «Anyzga ainalgan Abyz» presents the memoirs of famous writers of Kazakhstan about the writer: «Abish Kekilbayev shygarmalaryndagi tarikh tagylymy» (2007), «Tulga turaly tolgamdar» (2011), «Tybekke tanymal tulgalar» (2012), «Kashagan–sozdin dulduli» (2013), « Kesteli soz kemengeri» (2013), «Sonday da bir kun bolgan, sonday da bir tun bolgan» (2015), «Abish zholy. Abish tagylymy» (2017), «Abyz Abish» (2022), etc.
The purpose of the book exhibition is to introduce and popularize the creative activities of A. Kekilbayev, to attract readers' attention to the famous personality of the writer, who made a significant contribution to the development of Kazakh literature.
