An exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the regional socio-political newspaper «South Kazakhstan» has been organized in the reading room of periodicals.
South Kazakhstan is a regional socio-political newspaper published in Shymkent. It was founded on May 1, 1925. The newspaper South Kazakhstan is an authoritative publication with a rich history, a wide readership, and one of the most widely circulated Russian–language newspapers in the Turkestan region. The main sections of the newspaper are politics, economics, society, culture, and sports.
The purpose of the exhibition is to familiarize readers with the age-old history and activities of the newspaper.
The newspaper «South Kazakhstan» was published under different names: «The Bow» (1925-1929), «The Truth in the Steppe» (1930-1932), «The Truth of Southern Kazakhstan» (1932-1962). Since 1962, it has been published under the name «Southern Kazakhstan».
The editors-in-chief of the newspaper were: Dobry (1925), Shofer (1931), A. Zarodov (1940), G. Cherevatov (1953), D. Vlasov, Y. Kiryukhin, N. Kolomytsev, O. Smirnova and currently M. Limarenko.
The newspaper «South Kazakhstan» is published three times a week, with a circulation of 8000 copies.
The exhibition presents materials and articles published in different years on the pages of the newspaper «South Kazakhstan» from the fund of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
