From April 25 to April 29, Aida Muratovna Shomanova, Head of the Conservation, Restoration and Binding Service of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the XII International Seminar “Faces of Memory. Latest Technologies for the Preservation and Restoration of Manuscript and Printed Heritage”, held at the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts “Matenadaran” (Yerevan).
The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member states.
A.M. Shomanova made the presentation "Modern methods of conservation work of large-format documents from the rare fond from previous restorations in the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan." The report covered the methods of conservation work on duplicating condenser paper from the periodicals of the rare fund.
The purpose of the seminar is to discuss the problems that exist in the field of preservation and restoration of cultural heritage and find the ways to resolve them. The seminar became the platform for discussions on the wide range of issues related to research, the preservation of the world's written documentary fond.
The seminar was attended by the restorers, custodians of the fonds, employees of national libraries, museums, archivists, high-tech specialists from Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Russia.
