Tumanbai Moldagaliyev was born on March 20, 1935 in the village of Zharsu of the Enbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region. In 1956 he graduated from the philological faculty of the Kazakh state university after S.M.Kirov (now the Kazakh national university after al-Farabi).
In 1956-1986 T.Moldagaliyev worked as a literary worker of the newspapers “Leninshyl zhas” (now “Zhas Alash”), the magazine “Pioner” (now “Ak zhelken”), chief editor of the publishing house “Zhazushy”, executive secretary of the magazine “Baldyrgan”, chief editor of the almanac “Zhalyn”, Secretary of the board of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan, chief editor of the magazine “Baldyrgan”.
In 1957 there was published the first poetical book “Student dapteri” (“The student’snotebook”). After that there were published the collections of verses, poems and songs: “Kamilya” (1960), “Koktem tany” (1961), “Alatau kyzy” (1963), “Zulaidy kunder” (1965), “Zhurek oyau kashan” (1972), “Makhabbat oty sonbeidy” (1975), “Zhyirma besinshy koktem” (1980), “Tynyk mukhit daptery” (1985) and others.
The lyrics of T.Moldagaliyev is marked by melodiousness, that’s why for his verses there wrote the music the most prominent Kazakh composers N.Tlendiyev, Sh.Kaldayakov, A.Beiseuov, E.Rakhmadiyev and others. T.Moldagaliyev entered the Kazakh poetry not only as the brightest lyric but also as one of the best children’s poets of Kazakhstan: “Etekbai atam uyinde”, “Arman men Bota” and others.
The works of T.Moldagaliyev are translated into many languages of the world. He fruitfully worked also in the sphere of artistic translation. He translated into the Kazakh language the works of the foreign and Russian classics: G.Byron, M.Lermontov, R.Gamzatov, G.Gulam and others.
The labour activity of T.Moldagaliyev was marked by the state awards: the order of “Parasat” (2005) and “Dostyk” (2010), the prize of the Leninist Komsomol of Kazakhstan (1968), the State prize of Kazakhstan (1982) and the International prize after Fizuli (1992).
Tumanbai Moldagaliyev died on October 10, 2011 in Almaty city.
There at the book exhibition out of the fond of National library of the RK are presented the materials about the life and creative activity of the writer, his works and articles on the pages of the periodical press.
